The adoption questions have started rolling in. Some of these blog posts will try to answer these.
“Why are you adopting (rather than having biological children)?”
First and foremost, we are adopting because we are ready to start our family. Secondly, there are 143 million orphans in the World, tens of millions of which are waiting for adoptive families; and since we want children, it’s a no-brainer for us. Thirdly, every child has human rights according to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which states that all children have the right “to participate fully in family…”
We are in no way suggesting that others should adopt…we feel every family should do what feels right for them. What feels right for us is in general is a.) following our intuition b.) often humanitarian in nature and c.) challenging assumptions and societal preconceptions on how things ‘should’ be done.
The child pictured is an orphan in Eastern Europe, not one we are adopting.
