I got this neat book Science Play and finally got around to doing the first activity. It is my intention to do one each week if there is interest. We went on a nature discovery walk in our tiny yard. We brought scissors, white paper, crayons for rubbings, drawing supplies, binoculars, magnifying glass, garden gloves, digging tool, camera and bag.

The botanists collecting field specimens to study back in the lab. (Not exactly sure why Zen was wearing a rain coat on this lovely sunny day!)

Inquiry – how is this ivy vine climbing straight up?

Searching for bugs.

Found One!

Back in the lab taking inventory of our field specimens.

Observing flowers with a magnifying glass.

Sorting the specimens into categories.

Collaborative fern sketch by Ali & Zen

Collaborative bark rubbing. This one is pine and they also did cedar.

Looks like fun! Love Ali’s field photos:) and Zen inspecting the Petunias:)
